Taylor Hagler Looks to Replicate History at Mid-Ohio
Returning to the site of her best IMSA finish to date, Taylor Hagler returns to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for the Mid-Ohio 120 for the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge (IMPC) on Saturday, May 15th. The Texas-based driver arrives at the track with an optimistic outlook as she not only holds the lead in the IMSA Championship alongside co-driver Michael Lewis, but also has some fast and fond memories from previous outings at the track.
Hagler will drive the No. 77 Bryan Herta Autosport Hyundai Veloster N TCR at the 2.258-mile course for the third round of the 2021 season. Mid-Ohio is home to good memories for the 25-year-old driver. It served as the location for Hagler’s TCR class breakout in 2020, when she drove to a second place finish in the first race of the weekend and then just three hours later, secured her career-first MOTUL Pole award for Race Two.
Hagler looks to utilize her knowledge of Mid-Ohio to continue her success in Ohio. Having moved to the Hyundai platform ahead of the 2021 season with BHA, Hagler and Lewis have combined for a run to (4th) at Daytona and then (3rd) at Sebring to move to the top of the TCR Class points standings with two rounds of the ten-race championship in the books.
“Mid-Ohio was great to me last year but now I have higher expectations for myself to better on last year’s visit,” said Hagler. “We recently tested at Mid-Ohio which allowed me to familiarize myself with how the Hyundai Veloster N TCR drives there. We have a strong car that works well at technical tracks like this so we know we will be contenders at the end of the day. It is always great to be working with the BHA team but even more when we bring home some hardware.”
Teamed with Hyundai veteran Lewis, Hagler has had a quick start to the 2021 season. The previous IMPC round at Sebring International Raceway in March saw Hagler represent BHA as the highest finishing Hyundai in her return to the IMSA podium with a third-place finish.
“Michael (Lewis) and I know that we can achieve great and consistent results as teammates,” said Hagler. “The BHA team provides us with a high quality, reliable and fast race car each time we are at the track. Continuing our success from Sebring will be a key part of our work towards capturing a win this weekend at Mid-Ohio.”
The IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge weekend begins Friday, May 14th with practice and qualifying before the field of TCR and GS entries take the green for the Mid-Ohio 120 on Saturday, May 15th at 3:30PM ET. Live streaming of the race at Mid-Ohio will be available on TrackPass on NBC Sports Gold.
