California Corkscrew Next on Championship Checklist for Taylor Hagler
With the final three races of the 2021 IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge (IMPC) ahead, Taylor Hagler heads to WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca for the Hyundai Monterey Sports Car Championship weekend with the main event on Saturday, September 11th (7:40 PM ET, TrackPass on NBC Sports Gold).
Hagler and teammate Michael Lewis will continue their TCR championship campaign as the pair bring their 190 point advantage in both the IMSA Driver and Team Championships to the famed Monterey area circuit.
The No. 77 Bryan Herta Autosport Hyundai Veloster N TCR teammates have six consecutive top-five finishes, three podium results and a breakthrough class win at Lime Rock Park, and will look to add to that list of accomplishments as the duo race together in Lewis’ home state for the first time.
The race start at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca will be Hagler’s second ever start at the California course. Hagler’s WRLS debut in 2020 saw the Texas native utilize smart strategy to move up the running order and capture a fourth place finish.
Conquering the 2.238-mile course – which features a 180 foot elevation change in the iconic corkscrew – is the next task on Hagler’s list to complete her ambition of becoming the first-ever IMPC champion run to becoming the first female IMPC champion.
“Laguna Seca is a track unlike any other,” said Hagler. “The elevation change and the fast flowing corners make for close racing that pushes you as a driver. The Hyundai Veloster is well suited for those conditions and Michael (Lewis) and I have our goal in mind. With the support of our BHA crew behind us we have a great chance at getting a good result and represent Hyundai on the podium during the Hyundai Sports Car Championship weekend.” The WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca 120 will go green on Saturday, September 11th at 7:40 PM ET with live streaming available on TrackPass on NBC Sports Gold
